Plymouth newborn photography FAQ’s Answered

I am often asked questions before clients get booked in and they are often very similar! I hope that this short blog can help answer some of those burning questions. So here goes: Plymouth newborn photography FAQ’s Answered!

Is Plymouth newborn photography safe?

The short answer is yes! Now for the longer answer!

Sadly baby photography is currently an unregulated industry. This means that it is easy for someone to launch into a new business with no insurance etc. With that in mind it is so important to fully research your newborn photographer before booking them. Do they work safely? Is your baby’s safety THE MOST important thing above all else? Check out my newborn safety blog here where I go into a little more detail about this topic. I also revisited the topic in a later blog here. I know you want beautiful baby photos but please NEVER put your child’s safety at risk.

How old should my baby be for a Plymouth studio session?

I prefer to photograph babies between the age of 5 – 21 days old.

When babies are less than 5 days old I have found that they are still trying to establish feeds. This is the case for both breastfed and formula fed babies. Those first few days are often full of visitors as well!! Babies that are over 21 days tend to be a lot more awake and alert. This means that they are harder to settle for a studio session.

Sometimes things don’t go to plan and you are not able to visit me before they are 21 days. If your baby is older than 21 days I would still love to hear from you. Little Isabelle was 81 days old for her studio session and she was a little star! Did you know I also do little sitter sessions?

How long will our session take?

Babies are unpredictable! One parents once told me that I probably only spend 15 minutes actually photographing!

I always allow 4 hours in my diary for your baby pictures. This is to give you time to feed without rushing and to settle your baby. If we are done in an hour and a half because your baby is happy to just sleep and sleep then great! Otherwise we have plenty of time to get those perfect newborn photos!

Where is your studio?

My studio is located in Lipson in Plymouth, Devon. It is a small cosy Plymouth home studio. I have parking on the road so no need to worry about paying for parking or permits. I have nappies, wipes, dummies and plenty of muslins so please don’t worry if you think you have forgotten something. As long as you don’t forget the baby and milk we should be fine!

Can you photograph my baby when they are awake?

Of course! I LOVE awake photos! Often when a baby won’t sleep I get the chance to capture all of their CUTE expressions. It is often my favourite part of the session! Check out my blog on what I do when a little one won’t sleep!

When should I book my Plymouth baby session with you?

I always ask that you get in touch to book in from your 12 week scan. I only take a limited number of bookings per month in Plymouth. This is to ensure that I can fit in all of the babies booked in if they all decide to arrive super early or all decide to arrive super late! This does sometime mean that I have a last minute space but I can’t promise it so please get in touch.

Do you do family photos in Plymouth too?

Family photos are SO important. Your little baby will grow up so quickly so I understand the importance of documenting them with you when they are still so young. I include family and sibling photos in my studio packages at no extra charge. All I ask is that siblings arrive towards the end of the session so that your baby has the best chance of keeping settled.

When can we see our baby photos?

I know you are really keen to see them! If you are happy for me to share on social media I always aim to pop a sneak peek online within 24 hours of your shoot. I estimate that I can get your gallery over to you between 1 – 2 weeks. This gives me time to fully edit your beautiful photos!
